"But whenever a person turns [in repentance] to the Lord, the veil is stripped off and taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (emancipation from bondage, freedom). And all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor and from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit."
When my husband and I bought our first family home, it was a diamond in the rough. We saw beyond the old furnishings, wallpaper and stench from the carpet and saw a jewel. Our first decision was to get rid of the carpet. We removed the carpet and pad, used abrasive materials to remove the stains on the hardwood floors, washed, buffed and added a few coats of polyurethane.
This transfiguration the bible speaks of is a process that includes things like recognizing sin and toxic habits, thoughts and relationships that keep us from living the abundant life Christ died to restore. That old carpet smelled bad and would've kept company away. Sin keeps us separate from God.
When we sincerely repent and turn and follow our Lord Jesus Christ, He conforms us into His image and likeness in "ever increasing splendor!" We're free to be who He's fashioned us to be - Sons of God! Our floors required regular maintenance. So does a repented heart by renewing the mind with the word of God.
Restoring the floors to their original form of glory was indeed a process. But in the end, I could look down and see my reflection - I mean every line in my face! With the help of a few friends it became our showpiece! God through the Holy Ghost wants to help you see your true value and make you His showpiece.
The word of God is life and peace. Apply it to your life daily.
